About
My love for English started at school and I know how fundamental it is to enjoy a subject in order to succeed. After achieving a First-Class Honours degree in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Brighton. I moved back to London where I started my teaching career. I have worked as a teacher for over 10 years, including navigating online learning during the COVID pandemic; teaching full online lessons for my students throughout that period and creating comprehensive resources to complete at home.
Becoming a private tutor in 2017 allowed me to gain a greater knowledge and experience of different exam board criteria alongside my main teaching employment. I have worked with AQA, IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel and Eduqas (Part of WJEC).
After returning to work after my first maternity leave in 2019, I started my role as second in charge of the department focusing on the KS3 curriculum. During which time, I have adapted the curriculum and resources focusing on key concepts allowing students to progress effectively through GCSE, A level and beyond. The curriculum changes have directly contributed to the continuous improvement of my GCSE and A Level results year after year.
Since 2019, my work within school includes ITT mentorship enabling me to support and train new teachers starting their careers. This allows continuous professional development to ensure that myself and fellow trainees stay up to date with curriculum changes, evolving technology, and modern teaching methodologies. As a member of NATE, I keep up to date with relevant teaching publications to enhance my continuing professional development.
After returning to work after my second maternity leave in 2024, I secured a position as Head of House, allowing me to broaden my experience far beyond the realms of the English classroom. This experience is fundamental in my understanding of engagement and centring education around enjoyment as well as academia.
I have worked with students who love the study of English as much as I do and those who really struggle to enjoy it. Both students are always capable of success. I believe that building confidence is the core to progression and small group sessions are the key to unlocking true potential.
My teaching approach is centered around:
Personalised Learning: I understand that each student has unique needs. I work closely with my students to create customised lesson plans that target their specific areas of improvement, helping them progress at their own pace.
Engaging Lessons: Learning English can be both fun and challenging. I incorporate a variety of teaching methods—from quizzes that assess prior knowledge, to discussions centred around big ideas and real life examples. I provide reading exercises and writing tasks—to make online lessons engaging and memorable.
Real-World Application: I ensure that my students understand how English is used in real-world contexts, whether for business, travel, or everyday conversation. I focus on practical skills that they can apply immediately both in school and in their day-to-day lives.
Positive Learning Environment: I create a supportive and encouraging online environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and learning at their own pace.
Every child is capable of success in English. With the right guidance, support and regular practice every child can achieve their goals.

As well as that, I offer a free scheduled parents’ consultation (10 minutes) online every three months to discuss your child’s progress. This is often a great opportunity to share information from parents’ evening at school so I can best adapt the learning to target the student’s goals within their school setting.

The sessions will scheduled via GoogleMeet. The students will need a Google account to be added to the schedule list.
It is best that the students work from a laptop or computer to fully access the software’s capabilities. For example, when working on GoogleDocs, students can instantly share their work with me and I am able to live mark for 1:1 intervention throughout the session.
